  1. 1. What is the role of the sun on page 82? Use a quote as support.
The role of the sun is the trail. The sun is the role of the trail because “The trailed opened with the sun glaring outside” (Camus 82).
    2. What does the following quote say about humanity. "They were all looking at me: I realized that they were the jury. But I can't say what distinguished one from another" (83).
What the quote says about humanity is that Mersault couldn’t tell whether they were judging him or just looking at him. Meaning that he couldn’t tell if the jury chose to already plead him guilty or not too.

    3. How does one see social conventions on page 84?
You see social convention when you see the press starting to be interested in Mersault’s case.

    4. What mattered more to Mersault? The details of the trial or the trial itself? What does this say about his manner of thinking?
What mattered more to Mersault is the detail of the trail. He thinks that the detail of the trail is more important because he “realized that it was only natural, because it would be a very serious thing to try the wrong man” (Camus 87).
Mersault’s manner of thinking is that he thinks more about what happened, the details and the truth then the trail. He thinks that the trail is just irrelevant.
5.What evidence did the prosecution have against Mersault? Use a quote as support. In your opinion, was this sufficient to convict him of murder?
The evidence that the prosecution had against Mersault was that he asked him if “[he] had gone back to the spring by himself intending to kill the Arab” (Camus 88). In my opinion I think that it was sufficient to convict him as murder.
    6. In your opinion, is Mersault's treatment of his mother relevant to his murder case?
In my opinion Mersault’s treatment of his mother was not relevant to his murder case at all.
    7. Give one example of how one sees Mersault adapt to his surroundings. Use a quote as support.

    8. Mersault realizes for the first time that he "was guilty" (90). Does this differ from him thinking: "I am guilty"?
He realizes he “was guilty” (Camus 90) but I don’t think that this really differed him from thinking “ I am guilty” . Because he felt that he was guilty for his actions when his Maman had died not when he had killed a person.

  2. 1.  What is the role of the sun on page 82? Use a quote as support.
The role of the sun is the trail because “The trailed opened with the sun glaring outside” (Camus 82).

    2.  What does the following quote say about humanity.  "They were all looking at me: I realized that they were the jury.  But I can't say what distinguished one from another" (83).
The quote says Mersault realized that juries were looking at him and he cannot tell the difference to any of from them.

    3.  How does one see social conventions on page 84?
The social conventions is "I noticed then that everyone was waving and exchanging greetings and talking, as if they were in a club where people are glad to find themselves among others from the same world". From this quote, Mersault said that this is "stranger impression" (Camus 84).

    4.  What mattered more to Mersault?  The details of the trial or the trial itself?  What does this say about his manner of thinking?
What mattered more to Mersault is the details of the trial because he "relized that it was only natural, because it would be a very serious thing to try the wrong man" (Camus 87). This say about Mersault's manner of thinking is that he thinks a lot what happened about, which is important, the details of the trial, and the true facts, and lastly, trial.

    5.  What evidence did the prosecution have against Mersault?  Use a quote as support.  In your opinion, was this sufficient to convict him of murder?
He against the prosecution that he "had gone back to the spring by myself intending to kill the Arab" and he answered "No,". From my opinion, I would say this is sufficient to convict him of murder because he has a large fact that he killed a person, which is huge crime.

    6.  In your opinion, is Mersault's treatment of his mother relevant to his murder case?
I think his mother doesn't relevant at all to his murder case because I can't see any clear relative fact that made him to kill and also Mersault doesn't care about his mother so I wonder why would can relevant to his murder.

    7.  Give one example of how one sees Mersault adapt to his surroundings.  Use a quote as support.
I can see how Mersault adapt to his surrounding that when he tells the truth to everyone. "Nothing," I said, "except that the witness is right. It's true, I did offer him a cigarette" (Camus 90).

    8.  Mersault realizes for the first time that he "was guilty" (90).  Does this differ from him thinking: "I am guilty"?
Not really, because he said he "was guilty" at that time and it is same feeling that when he felt "[he] [is] guilty" (Camus 90).

  4. 1. The role of the sun was the sign that tells the trial was starting because “The trial opened with the sun glaring outside” (Camus 82).
    2. The quote says that Mersault had no idea what decision they are going to make. They all looked same to him. When people are in fear, they can't tell what is what.
    3. Mersault noticed that "every one was waving and exchanging greetings and talking" (Camus 84). He felt he was "odd man out, a kind of intruder" (Camus 84).
    4. The details of the trial mattered more to him than the trial it self. When the director and one of the undertaker’s assistants spoke about Mersault's behavior during the funeral, he felt that the people in the courtroom hate him. This also tells you his manner of thinking which he doesn't think he is guilty. He thinks that the people just hate him.
    5. The prosecutor stresses that the day after the mother's death, Meursault "was out swimming, starting up a dubious liaison, and going to the movies, a comedy, for laughs" (Camus 94). In my opinion, that evidence has nothing to do with the murder.
    6. In my opinion, Mersault's treatment of his mother is not relevant to his murder case. How he treated his mother has nothing to do with the murder. The trial is more about Mersault's treatment of his mother than his murder case.
    7. Mersault adapted to his surroundings because when he looked around the room, he thought "everything was the same as it had been the first day" (Camus 105).
    8. That differ from him thinking "I am guilty" because that time he felt it by his skin. Him thinking by himself didn't mean anything. He had to see it by his eyes to realize.

  5. 1. The role of the sun is the the trial, because “the trial opened with the sun glaring outside” (Camus 82).

    2. I think this is saying that Mersault knows that they, the juries, are there to judge him, yet because they all have the same expression, he does not know what decision they would make.

    3. The way people were greeting each other as if like they are in a club and are having a good time, Measult thought that it’s “strange impression” (Camus 84).

    4. For Mersault, the detail of the trial matters more than the trial. When the trial was going on about his attitude on his Maman’s funeral, all he thought was about “how much all these people hated” him. (Camus 90).

    5. The prosecution was frustrated toward the attitude of Mersault that he took the next day of his mother’s funeral; “out swimming, starting up a dubious liaison, and goingto the movies, a comedy for laughs”. (Camus 94). In my opinion, I don’t think this has anything to do with Mersault’s crime and this trial.

    6. In my opinion, Mersault’s treatment of his mother is not relevant to his murder case. Furthermore, this trial is supposed to be about why and how he killed the Arab, not about his relationship with his mother or how he was with his mother.

    7. The atmosphere in the room, how “the sun was getting low outside and it wasn’t as hot anymore” and the “street noises” helped him adapt to his surroundings. (Camus 105).

    8. He realized that he was guilty; this does not mean that he is guilty. The reason why he said he felt like he was guilty is because of the attitude he took toward his mother’s funeral, not that he also felt or is guilty about the murdering of an Arab.

  6. 1. Role of the sun is to indicate the beginning. “The trial opened with the sun glaring outside” (Camus 82).
2.When you become a stranger of some place, you feel like everyone else exactly the same. Or more like just figures with cold eyes. In any situation it is common like that. People think they are so unique, but there isn’t much difference.
    3. Even if it’s a courtroom, “everyone was waving and exchanging greetings” and “warm handshakes” (Camus 84).
    4. The trial itself. He was looking at the trial as if it was happening to someone else until the end of chapter 3 or maybe until he was sentenced to death. This shows how much he is senseless. And how much he does not think deeply about the future.
    5. Prosecutor said that there is a strong connection between the mothers death and the murder. He said that Mersault buried “his mother with crime in his heart” (Camus 96). He said that Mersault planned ahead to kill the Arab. I was convinced by the prosecutor that he kind of planned ahead. I was wondering why he had shot the Arab four times afterwards. It was to make sure the it was done “right” (Camus 99).
    6. In my opinion, Mersault’s treatment of his mother is not relevant to his murder case. I could say this only because we are reading the book from his point of view. Besides the prosecutor, no one said that it has a close connection. But people might think it had some impact emotionally.
7.He tries to see everything and “everything was the same” (Camus 105).
    8. He just felt the strong emotion around him that made him feel guilty. But different from “I am guilty” because he has no feeling toward killing the Arab. He didn’t feel any remorse.

  7. 1. The sun represent the beginning of Mersault's case because “The trial opened with the sun glaring outside” (Camus 82).
    2. To Mersault, each one of the jury look the same to him. He doesn't know in what way are the jury people are looking at him, maybe as a criminal or just a man.
    3. Before Mersault's trial begin, every one was shaking hands and having conversation with each others.
    4. Mersault has always care more about the little things in life so in this case he cares more about the detail of the trial. Mersault thinks that he is being hated by the people on the trials but he doesn't believe that he is guilty.
    5. The prosecution used the Mersault behavior during and after his mother's funeral against Mersault. 'Gentlemen of the jury, the day after his mother's death, this man was out swimming,' (Camus 94). At this point, trial became more like Mersault is guilty for not being a morally good son.
    6. I don't believe that Mersault committed murder because of his mother's death. Mersault was not sad about his mother passing away so it could not been the reason why he murder that man.
    7. When Mursault was back in the court room he noticed that “Everything was the same as it had been the first day” (Camus 105).
    8. It is different because the thought of “I am guilty” has no meaning to him so he thought that he was not guilty. Then the judge and the prosecutor pointed out the evidence that prove that Mersault was guilty, Mersault realized that he “was guilty”. He could not figure that out by thinking, only seeing it would help him noticed that his a criminal.

  8. 1) “The trial opened with the sun glaring outside”, the sun is the indicator of the beginning of the trial (Camus 82).
    2) The quote is saying that we cannot tell the difference between people without knowing them. For Mersault they all seem to be all the same.
    3) You can see how Mersault were social convections when the press treats him as an “odd man out, a kind of intruder”(Camus 84).
    4) The trail mattered more to Mersault, it seems he was terrorized and look down upon his action. It tells us that Mersault looks at the big picture, for once.
    5) Evidence that was treating againts Mersault was when he was asked “why was I armed and why did (Mersault) return to precisely that spot”. This evidence was not enough; there was no eyewitness that would like to testify.
    6) I think the way that Mersault treat his mother, is personal and not something you should be jailed for. It is also not relevant to the murder case.
    7) He got used to the heat, “sun getting low outside and it wasn’t as hot anymore”, the street noice used to be annoying, but now it a ringtone for the coming time of the evening, “From what street noises I could hear, I sensed the sweetness of evening coming on”(Camus 105).
    8) It is different because at first he knows he was guilty for the death of the Arab, but now he feels guilty for not showing emotions to his Maman funeral.

  9. 1. Sun means that something new is coming. Mersalut "knew as soon as the weather turned hot that something new was in store for me" (Camus 82).

    2. The quote explains that human search for interesting points about others when they first meet a person.

    3. Mersault noticed "that everyone was waving and exchanging greetings and talking" (Camus 84). He thought that this was strange.

    4. Mersault cared more about the trial itself. During the trial, he was observating other's behavior and actions.

    5. The prosecutor said "the day after his mother's death, this man was out swimming, starting up a dubious liaison, and going to the movies, a comedy, for laughs" (Camus 94). In my opinion, this is not sufficient to convict Mersault of murder. The day after mother's death does not have anything to do with the murder.

    6. I don't think so because nature was the cause of murder not his way of treatment against others.

    7. Mersault "suddenly knew what was on everybody's face. It was a look of consideration, I'm sure" (Camus 107). He now knows what others are thinking about him.

    8. The phrases differ from each other because "I was guilty" means that currently Mersault does not feel guilty about his crime since it is in past tense.

  10. 1. The sun represents the beginning of the trial because “The trial opened with the sun glaring outside” (Camus 82). It also shows the arrival of his big event since he “knew as soon as the weather turned hot that something new was in store for me” (Camus 82). It is shown as the symbol of something important coming up.

    2. It explains how everyone is similar and we all look the same. We are all humans so we don’t have much difference. He found people coming as a “silly idea since it wasn’t anything funny they were after but a crime. There isn’t much difference” (Camus 83). He states that his crime was similar as the others so he found it weird for people to actually come and see.

    3. He “noticed then that everyone was waving and exchanging greetings and talking” and he felt “strange impression” towards those actions.

    4. The trial itself mattered to him rather than the details. All the details were from the past and he didn’t really have that feel of danger or regret. He listened and answered questions but didn’t really care about where that trial was going. During the trial he was looking at the audience and also thinking about the weather, which shows that he is not so concentrated. This senselessness shows that he doesn’t really care about the future.

    5. The evidence was his lack of remorse/ignorance towards his mother and the murder and that he had “full knowledge of his actions” (Camus 100) because he shot four shots to make sure he was completely dead. I believe this is a good evidence because it shows how he killed the man with his own intention. However, I personally think getting a death penalty only by killing one person is a little harsh.

    6. I don’t think his mother’s case is relevant to the murder. However, I believe it shows his senselessness.

    7. He felt the “pointlessness of whatever I was doing there seized me by the throat, and all I wanted was to get it over with and get back to my cell and sleep” (Camus 105). He was bored already and didn’t care about the trial anymore. Since he is calm and bored he realizes that he “hadn’t tried to catch Marie’s eye once during the whole trial” (Camus 105).

    8. It is different. Realizing yourself that you did wrong and being told is totally a different thing. He doesn’t have any guilt towards the murder. He is now sentenced to death so he was forced to realized that he did something wrong.

  11. 1.“The trial opened with the sun glaring outside” (Camus 82). The role of the sun is beginning of the trial.
2.In this case Mersault is the stranger in there, all the jury is in the different side as him. Therefore he think all the jury is looking at him in the weird way.
3."That everyone was waving and exchanging greetings and talking" (Camus 84). From this quote you can see Mersault is trying to have the social conventions with the jury.
4.The detail of the trial is more important than the trial to Mersault, because all the people hate him from the way he was being to his mom.
5.“the judge then said that he didn’t want to dwell in this point, and he asked the prosecutor if he had any future question” (Camus 88). Even the judge are not sure about the evidence, therefore the judge do not just want to say something bad to him. In my opinion, I think the evidence wasn’t strong enough to say that he murder.
6.In my opinion I don’t think they murder are relate to him mother, because he wasn;t sad about his mother’s death, so there has no point to kill the people.
7.“Everything was the same” (Camus 105). To Mersault, he think everything are the same, he doesn’t really care.
8.He does feel he was guilty, but the guilty he feel are different than the guilty from the judge, he felt guilty about his mother, but not the guilty to the murder to the Arab.

  12. 1)” The trail opened with the sun glaring outside” (Camus 82). I think the role of the sun is the trail.
    2) Mersault realized that they were looking at him, but he realized that they were the jury. So he wondered if they were trying to judge him or just looking.
    3) The social convention was when he notice that jury was waving and exchanging greetings and talking. so at least they were bit curious about Mersault.
4)For him i think the details of the trail is more important.
He thinks more about what happened in his life not others at all, and he believes that he’s doing right.
    5) The prosecutor against about that the day after Mersualt’s mother’s death, he was “out swimming, starting up dubious liaison, and going to the movies, a comedy, for laughs” (Camus 94). Also I think that is abnormal or us in general.
    6) In my opinion, I don’t think Mersault’s treatment of his mother was relevant to his murder. The trial was more important to think about his murder than his mom’s death.
    7) When “the sun was getting low outside and it wasn’t as hot anymore. From what street noises I could hear”(Camus 105). He adopted to his surrounding by nature and environment.
    8) Mersault realized for the first time that he “ was guilty” (Camus 90). I think don’t think he was guilty when he killed the Arab guy, but he was guilty when his mother died. So i think this is not differ from him.
